FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HOOKSETT, N.H. - December 13, 1999 - The site maintainer of http://linuxtraining.org
today announced that the Linux Training Resources directory has grown from
only a dozen listings in May 1999 to now over 105 training companies.
"The enormous growth we have seen since the spring is just another sign
of the powerful influence of Linux," said Dan York, maintainer of the web
site. "No longer can corporations use the excuse that they can't find
training for Linux. The training is definitely out there, with more
centers starting to offer classes all the time."
The Linux Training Resources directory began in the spring of 1999 as
an outgrowth of York's activities with the Linux Professional Institute
(www.lpi.org), a Linux community project to develop professional
certification for Linux. York explained, "Since LPI deals only with
setting certification standards and not at all with education preparing
people for certification, I had a lot of people asking where they could
get Linux training. Eventually, I got tired of answering the question,
so I did the geek thing - took out a domain name, found someone to host
a site, and set it up."
The directory started with only 2 courseware providers and only a
handfull of training centers. Today there are listed 9 courseware
providers and over 105 training companies. Many of the companies have
multiple locations and some are in fact networks of training centers.
The site now lists video and online courseware providers as well.
York also announced that the site would now start listing information
regarding whether or not a training center has courseware preparing
students for Linux certification and, if so, for which Linux certification
program. "I've had an increasing number of people asking where to get
prepared for the upcoming LPI exams," York said, "so eventually I had
to add the information to the web site."
The Linux Training Resources directory at www.linuxtraining.org is not
affiliated with any organization or company. The current site maintainer,
Dan York, updates the site as a volunteer in his free time, and is
employed by Linuxcare and is also the Chair of the Board of Directors
of the Linux Professional Institute
