Corel® LINUX® OS Number One Linux Download on CNET Site
COMDEX/Fall '99 spotlight shines on Corel with Corel® LINUX® OS launch and awards

Ottawa, Canada -- November 24, 1999 -- Corel Corporation (NASDAQ: CORL, TSE: COR) is pleased to announce that it won several awards at COMDEX/Fall '99 on the strength of its new Linux® offerings and its core Windows® applications.

The Corel® office suite for Linux won the Byte.com "Best of Show Award COMDEX/Fall '99" in the software category. The Byte.com Best of Show Awards were judged on innovation, impact and the "way cool" factor. Corel beat several tough contenders -- Microsoft® Project 2000 and OmniPage® Pro 10, produced by Caere Corp., were also nominated for this award. As part of its commitment to deliver a complete Linux solution, Corel demonstrated a range of its productivity and graphics applications currently under development for Linux at COMDEX/Fall '99. The Corel office suite for Linux is in development and is scheduled to be available in 2000. Corel is also currently developing its CorelDRAW® graphics suite for Linux.

"Corel is extremely pleased with the overwhelming response we received at COMDEX," said Dr. Michael Cowpland, president and chief executive officer for Corel Corporation. "We believe the 'Best of Show' award is indicative of a strong support behind Corel's ground-breaking efforts at making Linux on the desktop a reality."

Corel launched the much-anticipated Corel® LINUX® OS at COMDEX/Fall '99. In addition to the huge crowd in attendance at the COMDEX/Fall '99 launch, thousands of people viewed the event on-line via the Webcast, which is available for replay at www.corel.com/comdex99.

Corel LINUX OS is now available as a not-for-charge download at Corel's Linux site (linux.corel.com), the CNET® download site (http://download.cnet.com/) and the TUCOWS Linux site (www.linuxberg.com). On CNET, one of the world's largest download portals, the Corel LINUX OS is the most popular Linux download of any kind for the week ending November 21st.

The following chart illustrates the success of various Linux downloads which were made available within the last year from the CNET site:

Name of Linux Download
# of downloads for week ending Nov. 21, 1999

TOTAL # of downloads
Corel LINUX 47,227 November 15, 1999 56,262
WordPerfect for Linux Personal Edition 10,669 December 15, 1998 859,067

Many enthusiasts have also taken advantage of obtaining the download version on a two CD set for just US $4.95 (plus shipping and handling) from CorellÒs customer service departments at 1-800-772-6735 or through Corel's Web site (www.corel.com).

Another powerful indicator of the popularity of Corel LINUX OS is the results from a Linux survey conducted by Corel at COMDEX/Fall '99. An astonishing 92.2 per cent of respondents described Corel LINUX OS as "WOW! It's the best Linux desktop I've ever seen!" or "It's excellent! I'd like to know more!"

Corel will start shipping the Standard and Deluxe versions of Corel LINUX OS in North America on November 30, 1999. As part of its commitment to deliver a complete Linux solution, Corel also demonstrated a range of its productivity and graphics applications currently under development for Linux at COMDEX/Fall '99.

A report from International Data Corporation (IDC), entitled Corel's Linux: Creating the Linux Desktop Market, was issued at COMDEX on Monday, November 15, 1999. In its report, IDC concludes that while other distributions do in fact offer a desktop version of Linux, IDC believes that most, if not all, of these solutions are geared toward high-end workstations and the power users that sit at these stations. IDC believes that Corel's Linux Distribution marks the creation of the general-purpose Linux desktop market.

Corel was also awarded with the Gold Award from Home Office Computing for WordPerfect® Office 2000 in the "Productivity Software" category. In addition, Corel won the Silver Award from Home Office Computing for Corel Print Office 2000 in the "Graphics & DTP" category.
