AMI announces support for Linux operating system in Intel based servers. Multiple MegaRAID products offer Linux-ready drivers.

American Megatrends, Inc., a leading supplier of core technology solutions, announced support for the Linux Operating System.

Software drivers for American Megatrends MegaRAID' controllers are now available for the latest release of the Red Hat Linux operating system, version 5.2. AMI now offers Linux-ready drivers for its low-end MegaRAID cards such as MegaRAID Express and MegaRAID Express Plus, as well as its high-end cards such as the MegaRAID Ultra, MegaRAID Ultra GT, and MegaRAID Ultra2 LVD. Drivers for previous versions of the Linux operating system will be made available on the AMI website .

AMI is also providing a RAID management utility called MegaRAID Manager, which will work under Linux to configure and manage MegaRAID based systems. 'This is yet another step taken by AMI to enhance our customer-requested driver support and continue leading industry-standard benchmark tests,' said Steven Paulhus, Director of Marketing at American Megatrends. 'We believe Linux offers a tremendous opportunity for the PC industry based on its significantly increased deployment over the last few years. We are fully committed to supporting this rapidly-growing operating system.'

The Linux operating system is developed under General Public License (GPL). Under the GPL, the source code is freely distributed and available to the general public. Linux runs on three leading computing platforms: Intel compatible PCs, Digital Alpha Computers, and Sun SPARC equipment. Because of the availability and ease of use of the Linux operating system, it is an excellent solution for anything from desktop computers to web servers for large companies.

In addition to Linux, AMI currently supports a number of network operating systems, including Windows NT', Novell Netware', OS/2', SCO UNIX', UnixWare', Solaris', Banyan VINES', and OpenBSD.
