Workspot recently upgraded to RedHat 8, so users can decide for themselves whether Gnome 2.0, Nautilus 2.0.6, AbiWord 1.0.2, Gnumeric 1.0.9, OpenOffice 1.0.1, Gimp 1.2.3, GnuCash 1.6.6, etc. meet their needs. Workspot charges $9.95/month for a subscription to the service.
Workspot subscribers also get an e-mail account, preconfigured to work with Ximian Evolution 1.0.8. In a mind-bending twist, this desktop, available through a browser, can browse the web itself, using Mozilla 1.0.1. Workspot's RedHat8 desktop comes with hundreds of GNU/Linux applications and utilities pre-installed.
Workspot uses VNC technology to mirror the desktop in a Java applet within the user's browser. It works through most browsers on Windows, Mac and Unix-like systems.
Multiple subscribers can remotely share their desktops with each other, and watch each other work in real-time, turning the GNU/Linux desktop into a unique Internet-based collaborative and teaching tool, accessible from any platform.
