Workspot: A GNU/Linux desktop ... through a browser
Nov 14th, 13:22 UTC
Now the average Internet user can evaluate GNU/Linux without any installation at all.
A Workspot is a quick solution for anyone who wants to try GNU/Linux, to study its applications, or to demonstrate them remotely.
You simply login from a browser, anywhere in the world. A GNU/Linux desktop magically appears within a web page. Workspot does this trick using a VNC java applet.
The desktop is tied to your personal account, on Workspot's remote servers. It comes with e-mail, so you can use GNU/Linux mail clients. Workspot comes with WebDAV access, so it can even act as a secure file transfer folder.
It's an amazing collaborative tool. You can share a desktop with any other Workspot account, and thereby work simultaneously with anyone, anywhere on the planet, on spreadsheets, documents, images... and it's a perfect tool for demonstrating or teaching GNU/Linux software.
Workspot's end-of-year goal is to catch up to the busy release schedule of the Free Software world, offering the latest releases of everything GPL. It can then act as an accessible reference, for discussion and feedback on GNU/Linux desktops, user interfaces, apps and features.
Workspot is available today. Send your friends to try GNU/Linux!
