A workshop covering introductory Samba administration will be held
on September 18 in Everett, Wash. This Puget Sound Technology event will
teach the basics of Samba installations
and configurations for providing standard Windows file and
printer services. Puget Sound Technology is teaching a beginning
Samba administration workshop on September 18 in Everett, Wash.
This evening seminar will cover the basics of Samba installations
and configurations for providing standard Windows file and
printer services.
Samba is a free SMB (Server Message Block) and CIFS (Common Internet
File Sharing) client and server for Unix-type systems.
It can used so Microsoft Windows, Unix and other operating systems
can share files and printers.
Samba -- combined with GNU/Linux or *BSD -- can be used as a low-cost
file or printer server replacement.
The three-hour workshop will also cover common configuration sections and
parameters, starting the daemons, listing available shares, using
the Samba command-line client, setting up a printer service, and
common graphical interfaces for Samba.
This Samba seminar is one of a series of ongoing training events covering
open source software provided by Puget Sound Technology. On Saturday,
August 24, in Everett, Wash., they are teaching hands-on workshops
covering beginning Exim Mail Server Administration and Introduction
to BSD and Linux Security.
