Tux Paint, a drawing program for children
Aug 12th, 20:15 UTC
Beta version 2002.08.09 of "Tux Paint," a drawing program for young children (for Linux and Windows), has just been released
Tux Paint is a simple and entertaining drawing tool for young children,
released as Open Source software under terms of the GNU General Public License.
Based on the Simple DirectMedia Layer libraries, Tux Paint is a portable program
which is currently available as sourcecode, or pre-compiled for Linux or Windows.
Tux Paint's goal is to be as simple as possible, yet still powerful. It includes a
number of typical drawing tools (brush, lines, shapes), as well as an expandable collection of
'rubber stamp' images, which can be pasted into drawings, just like pictures in a sticker book.
It also has a collection of "Magic" tools - graphical effects and filters which can be
used to enhance an image, or just used for the fun of it.
Tux Paint is packed with sound effects, and stars "Tux", the Linux penguin, as your
helper at the bottom of the screen. It has options to make it more 'kid safe' (e.g., disabling the Quit button), and
has been translated into a various languages: Spanish, French, German and Finnish.
Tux Paint is part of the Tux4Kids project, and
is being developed by New Breed Software.
