Beonex Communicator 0.8-stable released
  Jun 7th, 20:07 UTC

At the same time as Mozilla 1.0, Beonex today released Beonex Communicator 0.8-stable, a browser with email-application. The project wants to make Mozilla-technology accessible to the end-user and focuses on easy of use and security.

While the ultimate goal of the Mozilla project is to produce source code, i.e. to develop technologies that can be used by other projects and companies, the open-source project Beonex tries to form a browser out of it that is as user-friendly as possible.

Beonex has the goal to create software for all user groups - from the enterprise manager over mom to the freak. The installation should be as simple as possible and a reasonable base configuration is being offered.

Beonex Communicator stays relatively true to Mozilla (known to some through its test-milestones). It contains

  • Navigator
a comfortable browser with very good support for web standards
  • Mailnews
an email application that can manage several email accounts at once
  • Composer
    an HTML editor
Special emphasis is being put on security and privacy, to protect the data of the users, like emails, preferences and personal documents which are stored on the computer. The software is configured defensively, to avoid security holes to appear in the first place. For example, it sanitizes incoming HTML email, through which virii and worms are being spread, to the largest part.

The current version is available for Windows and Linux and bases on the Mozilla 1.0 source code together with a few special security features.
