The Email Security Revolution: T/bone SecureMail Gateway released.

New product of bone labs allows digital signature and encryption for the entire email traffic of a company with a single organizational certificate. This server based solution works transparently for end users. T/bone automatically finds certificates of external users or companies in the internet. Secure email traffic to customers, suppliers, and partners is easily established, no matter they also deploy T/bone or not. Software for Debian, SuSE, and Red Hat GNU/Linux is available for download.
Email Security is a complex subject. Security functions as well as Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and certificate/key management are from usability standpoint not simply enough. Just requesting a certificate at a trust center brings the majority of users to face intractable difficulties and leads so to usage rejection. Comprehension and usage of PKIs and directory services are not accessible for the broad user mass.
The Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for client email security products is high; a rollout in enterprises is only practicable with additional outlays, such as extensive consulting, installation and administration support and training. Often the enterprise security policy is a further barrier in deploying client email security products. End to end encryption makes e.g. central anti-virus checking and content filtering impossible.
T/bone SecureMail Gateway (www.tbone-security.com) encrypts and signs the whole email traffic of an enterprise with only one certificate - an enterprise or organizational certificate on a central server. As "virtual post office" T/bone implements the real world model of paper post office also for email.
For end users email security remains thereby transparent. They do not have to deal themselves with complex key management as well as installation and operation of special email security software. Set up and operation of a PKI are not necessary. There are high operation simplicity and cost savings in comparision to the usual market email security solutions.
The product utilizes international standards such as S/MIME and X.509 and is also compatible to standard email client programs such as MS Outlook, Lotus Notes and Netscape Messenger.
Global email VPN
Due to the property that T/bone finds automatically the certificate of every other T/bone gateway in DNS (Domain Name service), an encrypted email traffic is established automatically between all enterprises or organizations, which use T/bone.
Advantages of central email encryption:
- Reduction of outlays, because software licences costs, key and certificate management as well as PKI connections of a large quantity of client workstations practically no longer exist. Likewise training and support of the individual users are no longer necessary.
- Users don't need to deal with complex and incomprehensible safety functions.
- Central anti-virus and content filtering solutions have the needed access to plain text in and outgoing email.
- Posting of personally encrypted emails, undesirable in many companies, is prevented.
- With a central email encryption many problems are either solved or at least limited to only one computer. Furthermore the security level of a central email security solution is sufficient for the most email exchange of a company.
Digital signature for eBusiness applications
Further is T/bone suitable for digitally signing emails generated by eBusiness applications or systems. Order confirmations, on-line shops invoices as well as any other business transactions will get the operator digital signature, that today's usual email client programs are able to check.
