Panel of Linux Advocates discus SourceForge and OpenSource Development Models as income generation tools for the Internet Service Provider Industry group.

The SourceForge web site (www.sourceforge.net) and OpenSource Product Development Models in as potential revenue generation streams will be featured in a presentation at Wednesdays October 10th ISPCON in Las Vegas.

A panel discussion relating to the impact of how Linux & Open Source Software Development communities are changing the landscape and purchasing habits in the IT department of corporate America; has been assembled for this weeks ISPCON in Las Vegas. The Panel will present arguments and case studies as to why Internet Service Providers need to be aware of the dynamic shifts in their industry group, that command attention to shifting toward a consulting/VAR/integrator Billable hours business model and how GNU/Linux and open source software will grant competitive opportunity on Their horizon.

The Panel will also explore how the SourcForge website (www.sourceforge.org)has become a dynamic tool to lead that charge of critical mass in the open source software movement.

Participating on the panel will be

  • Russell Pavlicek- InfoWorld Columnist, Consultant, Author of "Embracing Insanity: Open Source Software Development", Former Linux Evangelist for Compaq Professional Services, 20 years experience as a Consultant and Software Engineer;
  • Jeff Gerhardt- Linux Advocate, the host/producer of The Linux Show, and an owner operator of four different BBS/ISP businesses from 1985 through now;
  • Dr. Larry Augustin- Larry Augustin, Chairman and CEO, founded VA Linux Systems in 1993 as a PhD student in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. A strong advocate of collaborative software development, Augustin was the visionary behind SourceForge.net, which quickly became the world's largest Open Source development Internet site following its launch in November 1999. Augustin serves on the board of directors for OSDL, the Open Source Development Lab, and Linux International;
  • Tom Adelstein- The fourth member of our panel was in a car accident this past week. He is OK but needs time to mend. Tom we all wish you well- RP/LA/JG

ISPCON is being held October 9th through 11th this week in Las Vegas. ISPCON is the largest event for owners of Internet Service Providers.
