Lineo Releases uClinux ARM7TDMI Development Kit
  Jun 13th, 17:59 UTC

LINDON, Utah -- June 11, 2001 -- LineoTM, Inc., a leading innovator in embedded systems, real-time and high availability solutions, today announced the availability of the uClinuxTM ARM7TDMI development kit. The uClinux ARM7TDMI development kit provides developers with the necessary tools, hardware and software for ARM embedded development. The ARM7TDMI processor core, in combination with the powerful uClinux operating system, provides developers with a convenient, low-cost embedded environment for smart hand-held devices, industrial control, home automation, digital signal processing and more.

"The popular MMU-less ARM cores are ideal for the compact yet powerful uClinux operating system," said Jeff Dionne, Lineo CTO. "The combination offers a complete net-ready development environment with many standard connectivity options, giving developers an almost endless number of possible applications, including portable, remote or battery operated devices that require a highly efficient processor."

The development kit includes the following items:

Lineo uCnet development card which includes CrystalLAN Ethernet and embedded uClinux with a full TCP/IP stack
uClinux operating system CD
ATMEL EB40-LS board featuring an ATMEL AT91 ARM7TDMI processor core
Serial cable, Ethernet and Ethernet cross over cable
9V DC North American power supply
Supporting documentation

To assist in the development process, the uClinux ARM7TDMI kit provides dual-serial connectivity for integration with standard serial devices and JTAG debug port for direct access to the process core and connected hardware. Additional standard features include several user definable interrupts, programmable visual output indicators, Ethernet with activity indicators and enough on-board Flash and SRAM memory for kernel, OS and user space applications.

"Clearly, ARM based processors are very hot with developers right now. Lineo has made a considerable investment in partnering with ARM and refining the uClinux operating system, compilers and tool set to ensure robust performance on Atmel's implementation of the AR7TDMI core," said Michael Durrant, Lineo director of engineering. "The Lineo ARM7TDMI development kit provides engineers and programmers with an impressive reference platform for the development of applications, kernel and drivers."
