Loki to Port Productivity Applications with Qt Tools

Tustin, California -- September 6, 2000 -- Loki Software, Inc., the foremost publisher of commercial games for the Linux operating system, and Trolltech, a leader in C++ cross-platform GUI application frameworks, today announce a strategic alliance to provide business and end-user programs for Linux.

As Linux continues to gain momentum with both businesses and consumers, a growing numbers of PC software companies are recognizing the need for Linux-based versions of their products. Using the Qt toolkit, Loki's newly formed Applications Group will provide third-party applications porting services and custom applications development.

"Loki has had tremendous success porting video games to Linux," said Haavard Nord, Trolltech CEO. "We feel that their new Applications Group will also be a huge success and we are very excited to be working with them. Loki will be porting applications that are vital to business, which will be a huge boost to the continued adoption of Linux."

Qt, Trolltech's cross-platform GUI application framework, will be used by Loki to port applications and build custom programs. The Qt toolkit provides tools that allow for porting applications to various platforms. Current platforms supported include: Microsoft Windows, all major variants of UNIX, and embedded systems.

"Using Qt will greatly facilitate our porting work," said Scott Draeker, president of Loki Software. "We are excited to partner with Trolltech on this new venture to bring important applications to the Linux community."

Loki and Trolltech will also collaborate to enable Qt functionality in Simple DirectMedia Layer (SDL) and in Loki Setup. SDL, authored by Loki lead programmer Sam Lantinga, is an open-source cross-platform multimedia library that supports Linux, Win32, BeOS, MacOS, Solaris, IRIX and FreeBSD. Setup, an open-source project initiated and supported by Loki, is a graphical installer utility for the creation of easy-to-use, standardized install routines for Linux.

Loki, now a Preferred Application Solutions Provider for Trolltech and its customers, will soon announce the first titles to be developed and published by the Applications Group.
