ASL Announces the World's First Dual FC-PGA Pentium III, 1U Rackmount Server with Double the Features in Half the Space

August 15, 2000, Milpitas, CA. Today ASL, Inc. announced the release of the first 1U rackmount server, the Lancelot 1200.

ASL breaks new ground with The Lancelot 1200 -- Its design optimizes applications for B2B, ISP and internal corporate and enterprise networking. Featuring "over-the-edge" performance in a highly scalable and compact unit, the Lancelot 1200 is both fast and extremely reliable with features such as 3 hot swappable drives and the most innovative thermal cooling system in the industry.

This space-saving form factor means users can double the number of servers in the same cabinet space, saving space and rental costs for off-site hosting fees at data centers. This means the Lancelot 1200 not only saves space, but will save data center customers money every single month.

But just because the Lancelot 1200 takes up less space, it doesn't mean users have to sacrifice any power.

Internet Service Providers will appreciate Dual Channel SCSI and Dual Network Interface Cards (NICs) for load balancing and high availability. In addition to the 1U high-density form factor, and support for dual-socket 370 Intel Pentium III Coppermine processors running at speeds up to 1GHZ+, the Lancelot 1200 also offers extremely high performance, scalability, and the flexibility to upgrade.

And for mission-critical applications like e-commerce sites, the Lancelot 1200 has features that guarantee uptime and availability. Dual Intel Fast Ethernet adapters double the bandwidth for high-traffic Web servers, while increasing responsiveness even under a larger load. A dual-channel 160/m Ultra SCSI controller offers maximum data transfer rates up to 320MB/sec. Each channel supports 160MB/sec. for the fast transfer rates required for applications such as real-time, on-demand video. Three hot-swappable SCA-2 drives also allow users to configure high-capacity RAID-5 storage.

In a clustered architecture, up to 4GB of memory allows the server to quickly and easily run memory-intensive applications such as databases. For more flexible configurations, the server also supports a CD-ROM and a floppy drive .

Critical for this compact chassis, the Lancelot 1200 is designed with an advanced thermal design featuring a copper CPU heatsink and high-speed, ball-bearing fan to provide the best cooling for high-speed processors in a small form factor .

For ease of use, the Lancelot 1200 also comes with the industry-leading Mandrake or Redhat Linux operating system preinstalled and preconfigured.

According to Jeff Nguyen, President of ASL, Inc. "ASL is proud to introduce a server with this much power in such a compact footprint. We believe it is an outstanding solution for users such as online B2B businesses who need scalability, performance, reliability, and high availability."

The Lancelot 1200 is available directly through ASL sales at sales@aslab.com. The toll-free phone number is 1-877-ASL-3535. Fax is (408) 941-2071.
