LinuxTag Business Congress on June 29 at the Stuttgart Exhibition Center
Jun 14th, 00:08 UTC
For the first time, this year's LinuxTag, commencing on 29 June 2000 in
Stuttgart, Germany, opens with the LinuxTag Business Congress. This
Business-to-Business Conference focuses on the professional use of
Open-Source-Software and on Linux as the operating system for data
processing. The conference will be officially opened by the
Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Technologie (BMWi) (Ministry of
Industry and Technology), which has taken over patronage for LinuxTag 2000.
The LinuxTag Business Congress is specially designed for the IT manager and
IT expert. There will be presentations of solutions and experiences using
Open-Source-Software. There will also be detailed explanations of the
"Free Software" phenomenon. Products and technology born or based on this
development will be presented as well as an examination of the business
factors which have proven successful in the Open-Source sector. The
principal objective is the exchange of information for effective decision
making dealing with IT infrastructure and the planning of IT strategies.
Linux and Open-Source-Software has been the shadows until the past few
years, but is now rising up into the light of publicity where it has found
its deserved recognition. GNU/Linux belongs to the Unix family, which for
years has been the leader among operating systems with particular reference
to availability, reliability, high performance and optimal use of
resources. However, GNU/Linux can be obtained at a suprisingly favourable
price of DM 0. From a free-market view, corrections may be added to this
calculation; altogether, the very favorable Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
and the technical brilliance can not be doubted.
For the sixth time since 1996, LinuxTag is the largest fair and conference
in Europe dealing with Linux and Open-Source-Software. The four day
event from 29 June - 2 July 2000 in the Stuttgart Exhibition Center is
expected to be attended by up to 20,000 visitors. LinuxTag 2000 consists
of a 6000m2 exhibition of leading firms in the Open Source world, along with
over 45 lectures and discussions with representatives from business,
politics and the software industry. These events are free of charge. The
first day is dedicated to the Business Congress. The charge for attending
this day-long conference, including 25 lectures and workshops in three
parallel tracks is DM 390 (excluding tax). Due to the limited number of
tickets, it is necessary to sign up in advance. Registration may be done
by telephone, fax or via the internet website of the LinuxTag at the
