Aggressively pushes to expand customer base throughout United States

San Francisco, CA - May 23, 2000 - Penguin Computing Inc., leading provider of reliable Linux systems for Internet serving, today announced that it has established a presence in the eastern United States. In a move to aggressively expand its customer base throughout the country, Penguin Computing's eastern region sales efforts will be based out of the new Atlanta sales office. The new office opening coincides with Penguin Computing's announcement today that Howard Johnston, a veteran IT sales and marketing executive formerly with American Megatrends, Tyan Computer and Mylex, has joined Penguin Computing as eastern region sales director and will be driving the East Coast sales operations.

"Our move to establish a presence in the East Coast is in line with Penguin Computing's strategy to develop the key IT markets that will allow us to quickly grow our customer base," said Sam Ockman, chairman and CEO of Penguin Computing. "Atlanta will serve as the gateway to markets collectively known as 'the high tech corridor' that includes major hubs such as New York, Boston, Chicago and Washington DC."

"Penguin Computing is witnessing an incredible growth rate in the East Coast," said Howard Johnston, Penguin's new eastern region sales director. "Being in a proximity to these customers will allow us to work more closely with them to secure a solid understanding of the types of products and services that make sense for their business."

Often touted by industry insiders as the emerging "East Coast IT capitol," Atlanta boasts the world's largest airport and within the last five years has emerged as a major player in the Internet and telecommunications industry. Penguin Computing's decision to base its East Coast operations out of Atlanta was a strategic move to leverage the area's attractive logistic options and its proximity to a high concentration of businesses that fall into Penguin Computing's target markets.
