Company to share booth #238 with MontaVista Software, maker of Hard HatTM Linux

San Luis Obispo, CA, July 21, 1999 -- Ziatech Corporation, the leading innovator of applied computing solutions for telecom, Internet and industrial control applications, announced today that it will unveil a new LinuxTM-based CompactPCI® development system at LinuxWorld Conference and Expo in San Jose, August 9-12. Ziatech will share booth #238 in the San Jose Convention Center with MontaVista Software, Inc. (Sunnyvale, CA), the distributor of Hard HatTM Linux, an embedded version of the Linux operating system.

The new Linux development platform will be based on an 8U-high, 19-inch, rack mounted system configured with an Intel Pentium® II processor, a core set of development peripherals, power supply and system cooling, and the Hard Hat Linux operating system. Designed to speed the implementation of CompactPCI-based telecom and Internet infrastructure systems, the Linux development platform joins Ziatech's family of development systems based on Windows® NT, QNX®, and VxWorks®.

Ziatech's participation in the industry's premier Linux event follows two recent announcements signaling the CompactPCI company's commitment to bringing Linux solutions to the CompactPCI market. Last month the company announced it would offer MontaVista's Hard Hat Linux on its CPU boards and development systems, and earlier this month the company launched an open source initiative for it's CompactNET multiprocessing technology. Ziatech has made its Linux source code drivers for CompactNET available for free. The source code can be downloaded from a new web site the company has created, www.compactnet.com.

"We're looking forward to reaching the growing community of OEM companies choosing Linux for applied computing applications through venues such as LinuxWorld Expo," said Ziatech's Product Marketing Manager, Greg Kopchinski.

"The show also presents an excellent opportunity for us to showcase our partnership with MontaVista, a company making a real contribution by tailoring Linux for embedded applications," Kopchinski continued. MontaVista's Hard Hat Linux is the first operating system environment to combine the extreme cost-effectiveness, openness and flexibility of Linux with the reliability and responsiveness required for computing applications in telecommunications, Internet and industrial control. MontaVista will supplement the operating system's enhancements with comprehensive technical support, porting and customization services. The Linux World Conference and Expo takes place in the San Jose Convention Center from August 9-12. Conferences begin August 9, while the exhibition begins August 10. Keynote presentations include a Q&A session with Linux creator Linus Torvalds, and "Intel and Linux -- Power for the Net," a presentation by Intel's Sean Maloney.
