Leading Open Source JavaTM/XML Application Server Meets and Exceeds Expectations for Wireless Internet Developers Community Site

Santa Cruz, Calif., April 3, 2000 - Lutris Technologies Inc., an Open Source enterprise software and services company, today announced that its Enhydra Open Source JavaTM/XML application server has been selected to power AnywhereYouGo.com, the premier community site for wireless Internet developers and IT managers. AnywhereYouGo.com provides industry news and reports, directories of developers and applications, online training, tutorials, and discussion groups to developers, IT managers and wireless infrastructure providers from more than 60 countries.

"The ongoing success of AnywhereYouGo.com is strong evidence that Open Source technology is more than capable of powering large-scale, mission-critical applications," stated Yancy Lind, president and CEO, Lutris Technologies. "We're extremely pleased that Enhydra is such an important part of this valuable resource to the global community of wireless application developers."

Due to the ever-changing requirements of the wireless application development community, AnywhereYouGo.com needed a highly flexible, scalable and easily maintainable technology infrastructure on which to build its site. Since wireless developers look to AnywhereYouGo.com to provide the most up-to-date information about the wireless industry, content on the site must be constantly updated. Enhydra's unique technology, Enhydra XMLCTM, effectively separates presentation logic from business logic, enabling changes to the "look and feel," or presentation layer, of AnywhereYouGo.com to be made without requiring additional Java coding in the business logic layer. Conversely, modifications in the business logic layer can be made without disrupting the interface. Thus, Enhydra XMLC greatly improves efficiency and allows for quick updates of news and resources for the dynamic community of wireless developers. Additionally, since Enhydra is an Open Source technology, AnywhereYouGo.com can modify the application's source code as needed, without waiting for additional product releases from a commercial software vendor.

"We evaluated a number of technologies, including operating systems and application servers, for AnywhereYouGo.com's infrastructure," explained Victor Brilon, a technology strategist at AnywhereYouGo.com. "We discovered that we could best build what we needed to power our site by employing Open Source across the board. We're using Linux and the Enhydra application server, which is the heart of our Open Source Internet platform. Enhydra exceeded our expectations. It is an extremely robust, scalable solution that enables delivery of content to members of our community whenever they want it."

Enhydra Background
Developers in professional services at Lutris wrote the first version of the Enhydra program three years ago to provide customers with a scalable infrastructure for dynamic Web application development. After introducing it as an Open Source project 15 months ago, programmers and Web start-ups have contributed to its adoption by developing, testing, deploying, and refining the program through multiple releases. Lutris Technologies recently announced Lutris Enhydra 3.0, the first fully supported version of the application server (see release dated 3/27/00). More than 20,000 copies of Open Source Enhydra have been downloaded since 1999, and the community benefits from more than 1,000 active participants. Open Source Enhydra is distributed by multiple OEMs and is supported and maintained at www.enhydra.org.
