70South, the 100% OpenSource Antarctic News and Views site, became the worlds first Antarctic site to offer WAP based information services today.
70South, the website that has been providing news and views on Antarctica for nearly a year, today announced the introduction of WAP information services. "Now you can get your Antarctic news and views on the move, where ever and when ever you like." said founder Brendon Grunewald, "I am especially proud of the fact that the site uses entirely OpenSource software like Zope running on linux."
Formed in mid 1999 70South has been providing visitors with daily news and views on or related to Antarctica. An important aspect of the site is that visitors can not only read, and comment on existing articles, but post their own related articles. Thus a truly interactive online news site.
70South is based entirely on opensource software like Linux, Zope, Squishdot and others.
The Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) is fast becoming the standard for mobile and wireless data applications. In the next 12 months almost every operator as well as most companies will be offering WAP services, ranging from commerce, banking and payment to gaming, entertainment and information services.
