Linuxcare's New German Office Extends Open-Source Software Support to E-Businesses Throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland
  Feb 25th, 04:31 UTC

New office will focus on delivering Linuxcare's services and support expertise to independent software vendors (ISVs), application vendors, dot-coms and the region's largest companies deploying Linux

CEBIT 2000--HANNOVER, Germany, February 24, 2000--Linuxcare, Inc., a leader in providing comprehensive services for Linux, today announced the opening of its third European office, located in Hamburg, Germany. The new office will focus on delivering Linuxcare's services and support expertise to independent software vendors (ISVs), application vendors, dot-coms and the region's largest companies deploying Linux or other open-source software. Linuxcare will localize its service offerings for German and other European clients, providing complete, vendor-independent Linux solutions to jump-start customers' e-business initiatives.

Linux is expected to become a viable alternative in Europe to current operating systems in many user environments, according to International Data Corporation analysts. In tandem, mid-size companies, both in Germany and worldwide, have recognized the need for highly-available, scalable and affordable solutions to enter the highly competitive e-commerce market. Compared with UNIX and Windows-based systems, Linux better addresses these e-business requirements.

"As the only international vendor-neutral Linux service and support provider, Linuxcare has developed a comprehensive knowledge database and technology infrastructure to respond to our customers' diverse needs--in Germany and around the globe," said Roland Markowski, Linuxcare German country manager, "Our new German office, combined with our ability to provide custom Linux solutions, enables Linuxcare to best support our customers' efforts in the fast-paced Internet economy."

Spanning open-source software with the industry's broadest range of enterprise customer service offerings, Linuxcare maintains four strategic business units:

* Professional Services - Linux consulting, development, integration, migration and customization
* Technical Support - email, Web, and 24x7 telephone support for Linux
* Linuxcare University - a full range of courseware for leading distributions of Linux
* Linuxcare Labs - vendor-neutral product certification and benchmarking

The company currently supports nine hardware platforms and 21 different Linux distributions including SuSE, central Europe's most popular distribution, as well as Red Hat, TurboLinux and others. Linuxcare has established high-level, strategic partnerships and customer relationships with companies such as Sun, Oracle, Dell, IBM and will continue to leverage these relationships within the region.

Linuxcare has global satellite offices in London; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Padova, Italy; Ottawa, Canada and Canberra, Australia. Another office is slated to open in Stuttgart, Germany during the first half of 2000.
