Linux Consultants Support and Resource Center has Enterprise Breakthrough for Linux
Jul 8th, 09:43 UTC
Case Studies, Directory and Consultant's Toolkit Seeing Extensive Use Dateline -- Dallas, TX July 6, 1999 If an article by Ashley Dunn of
the
Los Angeles Times proves true, finding information on the Internet
via search engines is tough. Today, search engines know little more
than 16% of the 800 million pages on the Web. Archives of information,
like the Linux Consultants'
Support and Resource Center (lc/src) increase the chances of finding
important data.
While listing and submission services trick the search engines
and promise high rankings, finding anything that resembles your inquiry
may be 100 items down the list. The lc/src fills a gap and winds-up
in the bookmarks of CIO's.
"A serious effort exists at the Center," says co-moderator, Tom Adelstein.
"We're beginning to source some important breakthroughs for Linux. One
of our consultants has a Lotus Notes client running on Linux and we'll
post the how-to very soon. That's a milestone for moving the Linux desktop
into the enterprise."
The Consultants' Toolkit appears far from complete and submissions haven't
come easily but that doesn't halt the enthusiasm of the sponsor and the moderators.
"Stingy doesn't necessarily exist in The Open Source community," Nicholas
Donovan points out. "We think we'll have a Linux consultant's handbook
for the five major Linux solutions by the end of the summer. The Linux
in Business - Case Studies gets extensive use already. In today's Internet,
content is king. Sites without content get little notice."
The Consultants'
Directory sports listings from 18 countries and includes 60 consulting
groups. "We've discovered some real gems out there like MNIS,
the French distribution from the firm that's responsible and éditeur
de la distribution LINUX/MNIS," notes Adelstein. "Many of the firms have
experience the community really needs like people with Beowulf time or
just simply a Samba expert in your area."
The lc/src moderators encourage submissions of case studies, white papers,
how-to's and listings. The site can be found at http://www.bynari.com/BCG
. A column exists on the front page where Gary Lawrence Murphy makes
a call to authors for McMillian Publishing Company. Ambitious Linux authors,
here's your chance.
