CoverityTM Introduces 2009 Software Integrity Web Seminar Series
  Dec 16th, 20:51 UTC

Coverity, Inc ., the leader in software integrity, today announced the launch of a 2009 web seminar series that will connect software developers with industry thought leaders in the fields of software security and quality. This ongoing series is designed to help software development organizations understand how they can control development costs and accelerate time to market for new products. By presenting industry best practices and emerging technologies that help development teams to improve the quality and security of their code, Coverity's web seminar series will enable development teams from around the world to learn from trusted industry experts how they can develop high integrity software. Companies today are investing significant resources to improve the quality and security of their software. At the same time, organizations also need to take advantage of open source software and emerging technologies such as SOA and cloud computing. The challenge facing development teams now is how to understand and control these forces to avoid any unintended impact on software integrity. Coverity's goal is to complement existing ALM tools with advanced technology that empowers developers to eliminate the old excuses for struggling software projects so they can produce code in a fundamentally better way. "Today, Coverity is already helping more than 500 customers improve the integrity of their software with our automated testing and analysis. Through continued product innovation and collaboration with our partners, customers, and industry experts, we believe we can improve the way software is developed." said Dave Peterson, CMO at Coverity. "We are committed to helping developers tackle the toughest challenges in producing reliable, secure and error free applications. In doing so, we will arm them with the weapons they need to stamp the excuses out of software production." Coverity's ongoing series of web seminars will include the following topics and expert presenters:

  • Aligning Security and Development Teams to Improve Application Security Audit and development teams have complementary mandates within an organization, but too often they can become opposing rather than allied forces. Because of this, a significant opportunity to improve code security exists at many companies. You are invited to join host Coverity CTO Ben Chelf and featured guest Forrester analyst Chenxi Wang for a complementary web seminar that will explain how the most secure software is developed when audit and development teams collaborate. The seminar will review proven techniques that auditors and developers use to align and measure their combined progress against a set of shared goals. Tuesday, January 27th - 10AM Pacific Time. • Measuring the Effectiveness of Software Quality Techniques - Capers Jones ranks the most successful software quality technologies and Coverity presents case studies of technology in action. Static analysis, formal inspections and testing all offer software developers the opportunity to improve the quality of their code, but which of these techniques offer development teams the greatest proven benefits? Internationally recognized software management expert Capers Jones will present the results of his research assessing an array of software quality techniques to help development teams select the most effective strategies and technologies to ensure the quality of their code.
  • Scan Open Source Report 2009 - Launched as a joint venture with support from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Coverity's Scan site provides static source code analysis to over 250 open source projects representing over 50 millions lines of code such as Samba, Linux, and OpenSSL. To date, more than 8,500 defects have been eliminated by open source developers using information from the Scan site. Join David Maxwell, Coverity's open source strategist as he explains how the security and quality of open source software has changed since the project's inception.
  • Top 5 Software Development Challenges of 2012 - One constant in computing is change, and along with change, both challenge and opportunity. Multi-core, SOA, virtualization and cloud computing are the agents of change today, but these and other forces will have long-ranging impacts on software development for years to come. In this web seminar, join Coverity CTO Ben Chelf as he predicts how today's new technology will impact software development years from now.
