Linux.conf.au 2009 Hobart Conference Announces Schedule

A wide variety makes LCA09's schedule inspiring, exciting and new.
After the careful deliberations of the LCA09 presentations committee, linux.conf.au has announced its selections for the January 2009 conference. "We have a wide selection that would appeal to any member of the OSS community," said LCA09 organiser, Ben Powell. "We've covered just about every field of endevor from medicine to hotted up cars, the law to the Linux kernel, the visual arts and music to robotics - all with a geeky angle of course!"
The presenters come from all corners of the globe and include many familiar names as well as many new ones. "We wanted to make this LCA all-inclusive, bringing in as many areas of interest as possible," said Mr. Powell. "Free software and its ideas have moved into just about every field of human endeavor, inspiring innovation, debate and discussion across all disciplines, and we wanted LCA09 to reflect this."
The schedule also includes ten tutorials on Wednesday and Thursday across a wide range of topics, ensuring that no delegate comes away without learning something new from the experts. Tutorials cover everything from graphic design to deep kernel hacking and give delegates the chance to get "hands-on".
"We were looking for tutes that really gave delegates something to take with them - to learn from experts in the field," Said Mr. Powell. "LCA really is about inspiring delegates and giving them the skills and knowledge to go back into their respective fields and do great things and we hope that the selection of presentations and tutorials will do just that."

The internationally recognised conference started in Melbourne back in 1999, with CALU: Conference of Australian Linux Users, held at Monash University over 3 days in July 1999.
Renamed to linux.conf.au in 2001 it has grown to become one of the world's best technical Linux conferences.
It continues to be run by community volunteers for the community volunteers that have made Linux and Free and Open Source Software the phenomenon it is today.
